Position: University Research Administrator (URA) at Kyoto University

Job Description: Enhancing the university’s capabilities as a research-oriented university, particularly with regards to internationalization.

1. International project planning and support

  • Strengthening the university’s international network and developing new initiatives based on the collection and analysis of information relating to world university rankings and international-related information from within and without the university.
  • Examination of trends in international indices with a view to strengthening research.
  • Organization of international symposia etc. with universities in other countries.
  • Find potential host universities for overseas study/training by students, faculty, and staff.
  • Planning support for cutting-edge collaborative research and solution-oriented research with international partner universities.
  • Support the operation of overseas facilities and offices.
  • Support for the acquisition of competitive funds, etc.

 

2. International public relations

Internationally promoting and providing information about the university’s research capabilities and achievements etc.

  • Public relations activities for international symposia and other events. Production of website, video and other public relations materials.
  • Provision of information to overseas media and research institutions etc.
  • Producing English language versions of public relations materials and website content.
  • Proofreading of English language documents, etc.

 

3. Advancing university internationalization

Planning, implementation, and management of relevant internationalization efforts.

  • Organization and holding of international symposia.
  • Negotiation and arrangements for the conclusion of academic cooperation and exchange and student exchange agreements with overseas universities etc.
  • Planning and implementation to improve the university’s system to accept international researchers and students.
  • Planning and production of English language versions of university documents, etc.

 

In addition, we are also seeking to employ two senior URA staff members to be in charge of management of the above undertakings, as well as leadership and development of the URA staff.

Requirements: 

  • Persons holding a doctoral degree or those deemed to be equivalently qualified.
  • Persons with experience of research or research support at a university or other research institution (including private sector)
  • Depending on the duties assigned, English language ability is also necessary.
  • For the duties described in 1. (above), English language skill is required, however depending on the region of activity those with skills in European languages (e.g. French, German etc.) and Asian and African languages (e.g. Chinese, Korean, Thai, etc.) are also being sought.
  • For the duties described in 2. (above), persons with experience in public relations, international media are being sought.
  • For the duties described in 3. (above), persons with experience in research promotion at a national university, international relations, and accounting etc. are being sought.
